When I founded Zoe Hoop Jewelry, my vision was bigger than creating beautiful, faith-inspired pieces. I wanted each piece to carry a story and the power to make a real difference. And now, thanks to those of you who wear our jewelry, that vision has become reality for two women in Kenya.
At the Star of Hope Training Institute in Mikindani, Susan and Purity received their own complete sewing machine start-up packages – giving them the opportunity to earn a living, care for their families, and build a sustainable future.
Susan Akoth – A Dream Fulfilled
Susan, 34 and a mother of three, used to support her family by selling second-hand clothes – until the pandemic hit and her business collapsed. Left without an income and with few options, she longed for a fresh start.
In 2025, she enrolled in dressmaking and tailoring at Star of Hope. Receiving her own sewing machine this year became the turning point she had been praying for.
Her goals:
Open her own tailoring workshop in her community
Employ other women and pass on opportunities
Give her children a safer, brighter future
"My biggest dream was to own a machine," she told us. "Thank you, God bless you and may you grow."
Purity Mlongo Duka – A Second Chance at Success
Purity, also 34 and a mother of five, once had a thriving small business using a borrowed sewing machine. But when the owner took it back, she had to give up her work and take casual labor jobs just to survive.
Six years later, she returned to Star of Hope to further her training – and this year, thanks to Zoe Hoop Jewelry, she finally has a machine of her own.

Build towards opening a permanent tailoring shop
