Upon waking, I delved into the Bible, elated to discover this phrase echoed in several passages.
Meaning
The phrase "Apple of my Eye" resonates with Psalms 17:8: "Keep me as the apple of your eye; shelter me in the shadow of your wings." It's also found in Zechariah 2:8.
In this context, the "apple" often alludes to the pupil, an invaluable and delicate part of our anatomy. To request someone to "keep me as the apple of your eye" is essentially seeking their utmost affection, regard, and protection.
The imagery of the "shadow of wings" evokes feelings of safety and nurturing. It paints a picture of how birds shield their chicks beneath their wings. Here, it symbolizes a prayer for God's unyielding protection and presence — offering solace, especially during trying times.
